FAQ
1. Who is allowed to participate in summer programs?
Different schools have different criteria when it comes to eligible participants for summer programs. If your school has a joint summer program with another school in a foreign country, you should check with them as to who is eligible to participate. Normally, though, any student with decent grades would be allowed to participate in the program.
2. Is studying abroad for the summer expensive?
The cost of your summer abroad would depend on several factors. One such factor would be the country of your destination. Another would be the accommodations that you would wish to have. You would also have to consider the cost of living in that country. Of course, going to another country would be more expensive than staying at home for the summer but many people find it a pleasant trade off.
3. Is there financial aid available for summer programs?
Again, the availability of financial aid depends on your school. Study abroad organisations also offer scholarships to deserving students who wish to expand their horizons. Your best bet would be to do your research early on and there are many students applying for financial aid.
4. Do I have to know the language of the country I am going to?
This depends on what kind of program you will participate in. Most of the time, however, fluency in the local language would not be a requirement. For your own good, though, it is better if you have at least a basic knowledge of the language of your destination country.
